Dear Gillian,

Please let us begin by thanking you and your fellow Association members for organizing the Lynn Valley All Candidates Meeting (ACM) this evening. We appreciate the time, energy and commitment that have gone into its preparation. Further, we value the commitment of everyone who has taken time to attend.

We have struggled with the best approach to fairly answer the important issues before the LV community membership. It became clear to us that the brief time allocated to each candidate will not allow for a meaningful exploration of concerns or solutions. Like you, we believe these issues are important and their solutions are long overdue.

We have decided to thoroughly respond in writing to each of the questions posed to us. We will share these responses with attendees and will arrive early to hear community and voter concerns.

We are also aware that many Lynn Valley residents are not able to attend tonight due to conflicting schedule obligations such as bedtime routines for children, post-commute dinner preparation, etc.

I want to assure you that we did not make this decision lightly. Time limitations encourage simplistic sound bites instead of a thoughtful discussions about solutions. After much deliberation, we have therefore decided to not participate in the ACM tonight.

We fundamentally believe that local government can and must be more accessible and include more voices. Instead of waiting for people to come to us, we are going to continue to actively meet people where they are. Tonight, we will be in the Lynn Valley community from 6pm - 10pm as follows:

  • 6:00 pm - Parking lot of Lynn Valley Rec Centre
  • 7:00 pm - Door knocking in Lynn Valley
  • 8:30 - 10:30 pm - Browns Social House, Lynn Valley

We look forward to meeting community members tonight will be available to answer any of your questions or hear any thoughts or concerns you wish to share with us.
